Yi xin vegetarian food

It's exactly 7 days to CNY 2010. This yr, the cny ''feel'' and atmosphere is quite low and it's getting weaker over the years. Im not looking forward to this new yr as there are just too many unpleasant things taking placing this yr. Well, it's time to do some spring cleaning at home. Thus, i intend to use this wk to clean up my house, decorate it and throw away the unwanted rubbish. From Mon(8/2/2010)nowards, my post would not be all on vegetarian restaurants but a mixture of organic foods, sandwich bars and others. Im getting sick of eating vegetarian food ... :/

Yi xin vegetarian (39 TEMPLE ST)

It's just located beside Yum cha Restaurant and once you enter the shop, u can see the big signboard. There is also a separate corner that sells organic stuffs. Since cny is ard the corner, they do sell some cny goodies.

I snapped a picture of their shop when i enter and the auntie was quite displeased. I wanted to take a look at the menu and order some food. The auntie was quite rude and asked me whether i want to take photos or order food. I was quite unhappy with her behaviour and told her i want to order food.

I ordered:

Sweet and sour mushrooms ($7)
Stir fry veggie with tofu ($7)

The presentation of the food is quite well done. There were abt 10 mushrooms balls (which looks like giant pork balls) cooked in honey sweet sauce. The mushrooms balls were huge and i think it's made from soy products, chestnuts and mushrooms. It was served with some organic side salad.The portion is huge and i could hardly finish.

Stir-fryied veggie with tofu

There were 6 pcs of tofus and it's not the soft and silken version. The texture is slightly rough and there were carrots, mushrooms, black fungus and other stuffs in the tofu. It was quite good though. The veggie is simple and lightly fried.

The food here is generally good and the presentation is well done. The restaurant is a little stuffy and warm. When i finished my food, the auntie came and ''lecture'' me, not to take photos without permission. Well, i would take note of that but her attitude was bad from the moment i enter the shop. Thus, i would never step in again.

Cedele- Totally Veggie Sandwich

Cedele Wheelock Place

I always believe that cedele served wholesome, organic and healthy food. Their food is trans-fat free as they believe in providing the customers with delicious healthy food of highest quality and integrity.

The wheelock place branch is one of the busiest and many people often complain about the service here. Perosnally, i prefer the branch at Ngee ann city as the menu is quite different from the rest and it is much quieter there.

I ordered the Totally veggie sandwich($11.50++), as recommended by the staff there. There is a choice of ciabatta, mixed grains, wholemeal or pumpkin bread available. I had the mixed grain. The sandwich took abt 10 mins to arrive. The patty consist of grilled lentils & tofu, spinach dashed with roast beetroot red onion. The texture of the patty is nutty and fragrant with the lentils and mixed spinach. Underneath the patty, the roast beetroot onion was a surprise! It taste a tinge of sour and sweetness- definately something interesting! For those who loves nut or beans products would love this. Hmm... i would be back to try the other versions of the sandwiches.

The service here is generally ok, prompt and efficient. However, when i was about to leave the place, i saw a long q outside and nobody even bother to attend to the customers waiting outside!

* Ps. Cedele home-made cookies is awesome! especially the Nigella Curry Pumpkin. There were black sesame seeds in it.

Nature vegetarian & catering

Nature Vegetarian & catering

There are 3 vegetarian restaurants along the same block. This restaurant is the busiest and had the most customers. The other 2 restaurants- Vegetarian Villas & Vegetarian Pureland seemed to be very quiet.

Nature vegetarian & catering do provide ala-carte dishes, mixed rice and tim sums other than vegetarian catering. Most of the customers order their vegetarian mixed rice which had a variety of dishes.

I was undecided of what to order since there are so many choices available. The auntie was very helpful and assisted me. She recommended me some of the popular dishes. I ordered the stir-fry naibai and deep-fried mixed veg roll.

The dishes came pretty fast. The vegetables were well stir-fried, not too oily or salty and i can find some carrot shreds and mushrooms in it.

Mixed veg roll

This is the mock ''ngoh hiang''. I think it is made of soy bean products, black fungus, carrotS & Water chestnuts as i can chew on some crunchy stuffs . Not bad and taste even better if u dip in chilli sauce.

The service here is good and they even receive the Service star award. They provide vegetarian catering. Thus, if u r a vegetarian and require catering, please check on their website : www.natureveg.com

Fatty Cheong's Char Siew

I read the blog on Ieatishootipost and found this good char siew stall in ABC brickworks market. Their char siew meat is made from the ''pig armpit''.
This is the part between the shoulder and belly and so the meat is nicely layered like belly meat. The meat here is tender and springy at the same time and really full of flavour. Th meat is nicely roasted and i can see the charred corners.

This stall is highly recommended by I eatishootipost.

Loke Who Yuen Vegetarian Restaurant

Ti's another vegetarian restaurant. Hmm... i think i would became a vegetarian very soon.

Loke Who Yuen, PRONNOUNCE as Liu He Yuan in mandarin is an old vegetarian restaurant in Singapore. It is popular with nuns and monks and especially during the 1st and 15th day of the lunar month. This traditional vegetarian restaurant had been there for a very long time and very few people knew them.

The interior is quite cosy and probably fit around 10 tables. Since this is a vegetarian restaurant, they have some sculture of buddha and played some buddhist songs.

Menu is simple, with some chef's specialities. I had the Golden coin beancurd and stir-fry caixin.The food came pretty fast.

Golden coin beancurd

Beancurd cut into round shapes resembling golden coins, lightly stir-fry with sweet peas, sweetcorns an button mushrooms. The button mushrooms were huge and chewy to bite. The tofu is pretty simple, nth special.

Stir-fry caixin

I have tried several places with stir-fry caixin. However, i think that they did it quite well. The caixin remained it's full flavour after the simple blanching. The leaves were withered and wasn't oily. I like this.

Overall, this vegetarian restaurant serve pretty good dishes. That could be why they are able to survive for so long.

After lunch, i went to Tiong Bahru plaza, by foot. ThE weather these days were terrible! The intensity of the heat from the sun is making me dizzy and sweating profusely. I bought some clothes from PepperPlus as they are having some promotions. As i could not stand the weather any longer, i went back home after that, stayed in my room and enjoyed the air-con and watched movies!

Fu Lin Xuan VegetariAn Restaurant

2nd Visit

There's only 1 vegetarian restaurant that is around the vicinity of JB thus this is my second visit.

Due to the experience that i had last week, i asked them to reduce the oil and salt in my dishes. I was afraid that i would suffer from high blood pressure if i continue to consume salty food.

Stir-fry baby kailan

A simple dish with shreds of ginger in it. As vegetarian food does not contain onions or garlic, they used ginger to replace it. This time, the vegatables were not oily and the kailan wasn't hard and diffcult to chew.

Sweet and sour meatball

The meatballs were made from mushrooms thus there's a chewy texture and nice fragrant of mushroom in it. The meatballs were stir-fry in sweet and sour sauce but there's a tinge of spiciness in it. I like anything that is sweet and sour thus this is good.

I chat with the person in charge of this restaurant and shared my experiences on vegetarian food with him. He would also visit some of the vegetarian restaurants in Singapore, perhaps to seek for areas of improvements? I also gave him my blog so he can check on some of the vegetarian restaurants that i've visited .

Ming De Vegetarian Food

Oops... again another vegetarian restaurant. Well,i fell in love in vegetarian food as they are ''healthier'' in some ways. Mock meats are used to replace meat/ seafood.

Ming De vegetarianis a new restaurant and i found it from a SUNNY veggie foodhunt. It's located at kitchener complex, king's george ave, a rather secluded place.
It is a small vegetarian restaurant that offers cizhar dishes and mixed rice. However, there are more people who come here for take-aways. The restaurant is non-aircon thus it was rather stuffy inside.

Menu is simple with very few dishes. I prefer mock meats made from mushrooms/ soy protein rather than flour/gluten. I ordered the stir-fry caixin and sweet and sour fish. I just love anything that is sweet and sour! It whets my appetite.

Stir-fry caixin ($5)

A rather big portion for one pax. At least the vegetables aren't oily.

Sweet and sour fish

Mock fish made from soy proteins. There's altogether 6 pcs of mock fish cooked in sweet and sour sauce with pineapple cubes and tomatoes. I feel that they used too much tomato sauce and sugar thus it was too sweet for me.

Overall, the food is just passable. Not exactly recommended to people who are in search of very good vegetarian food.

After lunch, i walked to city square mall to get something from watsons. There's promotions in watsons and every $30 spent entitles to a lucky scatch card and for the first 2000 shoppers who spent above $120 would get a free styler for hair. Furthermore, for those who spent above $88 in City square mall would get a free scatch card. I won a free eco-chopsticks... cool:)

After my shopping, i walked to little india area to get some vegetables. There's an indian stall just opposite tekka market that is so crowded with people thus i went there to take a look. No wonder there's so many people! The vegetables are cheaper than other places. I bought a few items and then took a bus home.

Su Shi Piao Xiang

Some of us would know that Fortune Centre is well-known for vegetarian food.
There are quite a number of vegetarian food here- on the first , second level and 4th level. You would have difficulty in deciding which shop to have ur food if you are the 1st time here.

Su Shi Piao Xiang ( Level 2)

Very obvious when u reach the second level. There would be lots of people having lunch/brunch especially during the 1st and 15th day of the lunar calendar. Reason being- the food is cheap and portion is generous.

The menu is placed on the table, simply just take a look at the menu and the pictures pasted on the walls. Repeated customers do not even need to see the menu.
The boss there is very friendly and would recommend you some dishes if you are undecided.

I ordered:

1X stir-fried nai bai($4)
1X Gu Lao Rou - Sweet and sour pork($6)

The nai bai comes in a big portion and it's not oily at all.

Sweet and sour pork

The mock pork is made from soy protein and cooked in sweet and sour sauce with pineapple chunks, cucumbers and tomatoes. Again, big portion.

Generally the food here is quite acceptable. The food is cheap and portion is huge. I asked the boss why the portion given is huge and he smiled & replied :'' it's ok, as long as ur tummy is full!''. Well, it's true.

CNY IS around the corner and bugis area is crowded with people. Can get some groceries here at bargain prices.

Tang Dian Wang Shanghai Restaurant

Tang Dian Wang Shanghai Restaurant, from the name you should have somehow guess that they serve Shanghai cuisine. What is the commonly found in Shanghai cuisine? XLBs!
They used to have another outlet in Bukit Panjang Plaza but now replaced by Xing Wang Hongkong Cafe. Thus, there's only one main restaurant in Suntec city.

The Ambience

Very classical and contemporary setting. The restaurant is very spacious and the lightings liven up the atomsphere. I think they want to create a relaxing and romantic feel.

The Food

The menu is printed on a pc of paper laid on the table. Choices are quite a variety-dim sums, main dishes, appetitizers.

I ordered :

1X steamed mushrooms dumplings
1X pan-fried pumpkin cake
1X cabbage roll with mushrooms

The steamed mushrooms dumplings come in set of 3. The skin is crystal clear, sticky and chewy. The fillings were so little- some cubes of carrots, mushrooms and chestnuts. I really dislike the skin as it is too sticky and chewy and almost taste-less. I feek that the skin plays an important role in a good dim sum.

Pan-fried pumpkin cake

The outer layer is a little crispy but i would prefer it to be a little charred. The sweetness of the pumpkin is there and i could see some small pumpkin cubes. However, the proportion of flour to the pumpkin cubes seems to be 70 : 30. I think they also added sugar to balance off the taste.

Cabbage roll with mushrooms

This is one of the popular item listed on the menu and it's recommended. There were 4 cabbage rolls, fully wrapped with generous of chinese mushrooms, button and other types of mushrooms. The cabbage rolls were lightly steamed and served with their broth. I was take aback by the ''enormous-looking'' cabbage rolls and each roll is filled with so much mushrooms. They taste good with the broth. For those who loves chinese mushrooms would love this dish.

Service

The service is good, efficent and the staffs are very polite.

Lingzhi Vegetarian Restaurant, part of the Tunglok group have serving innovative and quality dishes which have kept many coming back for more since 1991. Lingzhi is one of the high-end vegetarian restuarant in Singapore.

Each dish is meticulously prepared to ensure that it is well-represented and the cooking methods used allow maximum retention of the original taste and nutritional values. The range of dishes are filled with wholesome goodness and tonifying fare prepared from the finest, freshest natural as well as organic ingredients.

The menu itself is filled with pictures of food. They focus more on the presentation thus the food itself is a piece of art. The serving here is small.

Home-made beancurd ($7++/pc)

The beancurd is made from japanese Edamame beans which are best known as a snack with a nutritional punch. The beans are being processed in the blender to exact the juice. Thus, the beancurd looks a little greenish in colour. It is very smooth and almost melts in your mouth. It requires lots of preparation time, skills, effort and edamame beans to make this beancurd. I have to savour it slowly.

Deep-fried pumpkin floss ($7++/pc)

An equisite pc of art! Sweet pumpkin puree is being in dried vermecelli and deep-fried till crispy. The outer layer is very crispy and when you cut open the pastry, you can taste the goodness and sweetness of pumpkin puree. The puree is very sweet and the pumpkin skin is left intact. ( Pumpkin skin is rich in fibre). I simply love this!

8 treasures spring roll($1.50++/roll)

Available at the counter for take-away. The beancurd skin is not crispy but soggy thus it fails to impress. The fillings were okay but too bland(vermicelli, cabbage, carrots..etc).

The dishes that are worth recommending are the Home-made beancurd and Deep-fried pumpkin roll. I would definately order them when i visit them again.

Fu Lin Xuan Vegetarian (174, Jalan Sri Pelangi, JB)

I came across several food blogs introducing Vegetarian food and it prompted me to try all the vegetarian restaurants in Sinagpore. At least i do not feel guilty when eating vegetarian food as they are normally made from soy protein, mock meat or mushrooms.

Fu Lin Xuan Vegetarian

Today is the chinese lunar 15th day and many of us who are buddhist/ taoist who at least have a vegetarian meal. I decided to try Fu Lin Xuan Vegetarian which is one of the few vegetarian restaurant in JB.

As CNY is around the corner, they decorate the place to have the new yr ''feel''.
They serve quite alot of dishes and i had a hard time deciding what to order thus i seek help from the young boss. He recommended quite a number of dishes that are popular with the patrons.

I ordered the Cereal Abalone mushrooms and Stir-fried Kangkong.

Stir-fried Kangkong

Tad too oily and greasy. My mouth & lips turn gloosy after a few mouthful. I just merely took a few mouthful.

Cereal Abalone mushrooms.

Clear winner! Just like the typical cereal prawns, which is replaced by deep-fried abalone mushrooms. The cereals taste a little sweet, salty and a hint of spiciness(chilli padi). It was so addictive and i finished the whole plate of it.

Service

The service here is really good. The young boss did everything himself-take orders, serve, collect $$$. I feedback abt the oily kangkong to him and he promised to reduced the oil used. I found a good vegetarian restaurant in JB and i would visit them occasionally!

Fo You Yuan Vegetarian

surviving strong
This traditonal vegetarian restaurant had been serving Vegetarian Food for many years. Previously they are located at Geylang but now shifted to Kitchener Road. They are still renovating the shop but u can still have ur food here.

I am not sure whether their new location is ideal for biz. Located just adjacent to the new shopping mall, city square mall. There are several restuarants surrounding- Hillman, Putien, New Zen Fut Kai. They must face some competition. Being around for so many years and still surviving strong, it means they are doing the right thing.

The restaurant is quite small(still renovating it). The interior is clean and simple.
The menu is simple and easy to read but there are just too many choices. They provided some pictures of the food for easy reference. This made ordering easier!
Appetitizer: Some fried seaweed crispy. Very crispy but there's a little fishy taste. You can buy it at $4/box if u like them.

The boss recommended the Lychee Ham ball ( a.k.a Gulao rou). The ''ham ball'' is actually made from mushrooms and not gluten. It is lightly deep-fried and stir-fry with capsicums, lychee meat and some shoots in honey sauce. Simple yet addictive. I like the sweetness of the lychee meat and the ''ham ball'' goes well with the honey sauce.

Sugar cane Flowers($10)- Seasonal

This is a seasonal dish(indicated in the menu). I have not seen or heard of sugar cane flowers. Sugar cane, maybe....pretty common but the flowers, uncommon. The sugar cane flowers resembles deep-fried fish roe. It is lighly blanched and topped with some sauce to preserve it's natural flavour. It looks and taste like cooked fish roe. The boss joked and asked me whether is there any fishy taste/smell. Definately not! Surprisely, it was good, crunchy and naturally sweet.

This vegetarian restaurant is worth visitng again as there are many choices available. Who says vegetarian are boring? U can find ''suckling pig'', ''french escagots'', ''pork knuckles'' here!

Deli-vege Restaurant(South Bridge Road)

Who says that man vegetarian food are boring? Most of us are meat-lovers and seldom would want to eat vegetarian food. We thought that vegetarian food are made from gluten, plain and tasteless. Actually we could have at least eat a vegetarian meal in a week to clear our digestive system.

Deli-vege Restaurant serve some innovative vegetarian food. They do not use any MSG, Preservatives or gluten in their food. Most of the vegetarian food uses Gluten but they replace the ''meat'' by using soy protein(which is healthier).

The food

The menu is thick and is classified into different sections- Western, Asian & Japanese. Well, many choices indeed and you can enjoy different types of cuisine in a meal. It was rather difficult to choose what i want to order. I saw some reviews on HGW that the DFC is worth mentioning. DFC is actually fried chicken, which is fried chicken served with colslow and french fries. I didnt think much of that as it seems a little unhealthy and pretty 'normal''.

I ordered the Stir-fried kangkong and Sweet and Sour chicken.

Stir-fried kangkong

A simple vegetable dish which they stir-fry it with some oyster sauce. I find it a little weird. Kangkong would taste better with sambal.

Sweet and Sour Chicken

It was simply some sweet and sour sauce poured over deep-fried ''chicken'' and served with pineapple cubes and cucumbers. The sweet and sour sauce is quite ok, but on the sweet side. It would be better if they stir-fry the deep-fried ''chicken'' with the sauce rather than pouring over it. It makes the dish a little dry.

Generally the food is ok but nothing to rave about. The Good thing about this restaurant is the variety of food that is served. However, there would just too many fried stuffs. At least 90% of the food here is deep-fried. Not too healthy if you want healthy vegetarian food.

Good Morning Nanyang Cafe (Level 3 Chinatown Point)

Again HGW brought me to this little cafe tucked in level 3 of chinatown point. From the reviews, the orange ciabatta toastw ith kaya butter seemed to be very popular. Thus, i decided to get one to try it for myself.

They made the orange ciabatta bread themselves so you would not find it elsewhere. However, u can also opt for normal white bread/wholemeal. The ornage ciabatta bread is lightly toasted and spread with generous amount of butter and their home-made kaya. The auntie is really generous with the kaya as she wants the customer to taste the fragrance of kaya rather than eating the plain bread.

Verdict

The orange ciabatta bread is really soft even after toasting. The outer layer is crispy and the interior is soft and fluffy. The kaya and butter taste really good with the bread. Remember to eat it warm, it would not be as good if u leave it for too long. Recomended as the bread is rather unique.

Pattaya Restaurant & Coffee House(Jalan Sulam, TAMAN SENTOSA)

One wouldnt miss it's prominent signboard when you board the bus towards Taman Sentosa. I was captivated by it's beautifully designed exterior and the fascinating signboard. Sometimes, a signboard would help attract customers. There are very few ''high class'' and Thailand Restaurants in Johor. Thus, this restaurant is highly recommended for Thai Cuisine.

The Ambience

The exterior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated. There are few statues of Thai goddess and mural painting. The inteior of the restaurant is dimly lit with That style lanterns, making me feel relaxed and peaceful. The tables and chairs, made from contemporary and classic wood, provides a ''traditional'' touch.
The restaurant is divided into 2, dining & massage. One wouldnt miss the Authenic Thai massage.

The Food

The menu is beautifully printed with pictures of thai food, culture and people. The high-lighted would mean chef's recomendation. The starters, consists of different types of that salads-ranging from mango, papaya, chicken feets with various combinations of seafood and meat.

Some ''must-try'' thai food including Tom Yum Goong, Green curry chicken, Thai fishcake/prawn cakes, pandan leaf chicken..many to mention. I would have to visit them often to try all. The downside, there were no desserts provided. I would love to try the Thai red ruby, Mango glutinous rice.

My Food

The pickles provided reek of strong vinegar. But, it was addictive. There were pcs of carrots, papaya and cucumbers. I couldnt resist finishing all of them

Thai Papaya Salad(RM 15.90)

The thai green papaya is sliced thinly into strips, served with dried shrimps,chilli padi and cashew nuts in thai lime dressing. There were some cabbage leaves provided but i think that was redundant (in fact, it was icy cold). The salad was quite spicy and i could not resist sneezing and wipping tears. However, i felt that the salad was medicore.

Thai beancurd with green mangoes(RM 20.90)

This is basically deep-fried beancurd serving with green mango salad and thai chilli. There were 6 small pcs of beancurd, lighly deep-fried and topped with their special mango salad. I actually forgot to request for ''no peanuts''. The girl who served me actually made the effort to replace it for me.

I like the tinge of sourness from the green mangoes. I felt that the mango salad fare better than the papaya salad. It goes well with the deep-fried beancurd too.
I recommend the green mango salad.

The service

Polite, prompt and efficent. The girl who served me offered tissue paper when she saw me weeping away(due to the spiciness).

Verdict

It was rather difficult to locate a reputable or ''high -class'' restaurant in Johor, Pattaya restaurant is recommended for thai cuisine.

Xin Yuan Ji(Tan Quee Lan st)

Most of us would think of steamboat when we hear Tan Quee Lan St. Indeed, there are several shops that sell steamboat. There is also another chinese restaurant which is quite popular there which sells fishhead/meat soup. They do have fishhead steamboat too.

Xin Yuan Ji's signature dishes are the Curry Fishhead, fishhead soup/meat... anything that has got to do with fish. There are already a few tables occupied by people eating fishhead/meat soup with i arrived(11.30am). I think the soup must be of some standard.

I ordered the Stir-fried kangkong and the recommeded Tofu with preserved raddish.
I waited for abt 15 mins for both the dishes to arrive. Those customers who arrived later than me are already eating their food but why is my food taking so long. I was a little upset thus i asked the staff there. He told me that the fish soup takes a shorter time to prepare and my food coming up.

Finally, the tofu with preserved raddish arrived. It was a big square of tofu, lightly deep-fried and topped with preserved radish.The preserved raddish is being deep-fried till crispy and stir-fried with some dried chilli and spring onions. It taste sweet and the texture is very crunchy and crispy, not at all oily. It taste great with the simple egg tofu.

Stir-fried kangkong

A simple vegetable dish. However, they added some thin strips of carrots to give it additional crunch and colour.

Generally the food here is quite good and they are popular with the people working around that area. The prices are also quite reasonable.

Food Bloggers' Gathering ( Halia Restaurant)

It was Harris who organized this Food bloggers' gathering at The Halia Restaurant (Botanical Gradens). It's good to know that somebody share the common interest as myself- Food blogging. Got to know some food bloggers- HArris, Kaelyn, Serene, Fen & Yuan, Angeline... and the list goes on. We had ala-carte brunch at the halia restaurant which we ordered the food before-hand. I counted.. there were 18 food bloggers all together, a pity that Elaine couldn't made it. I wanted to meet her personally... perhaps the next food bloggers outing? The food bloggers made fun of me, saying that I owned Hungrygowhere.

The Halia Restaurant

Actually i had been there once, which is abt 1-2 yrs old. I can't really recall the experience back. Halia Restaurant is set admist the Botanical gardens and is popular with tourists with their ala-carte brunch. The ambience, setting and atmosphere is perfect for people to enjoy their brunch in the greenery.

Most of the food bloggers ordered the Poached Egg on Brioche/ Kurobuta and Portobello burger. However, Cheryl(from she bakes and she cooks) and myself ordered something else- The Caesar salad with grilled chicken fillet and Multi grain fingers with blue cheese which were something different from the rest.

Poached egg on brioche(choice of ocean trout, vegetarian or crispy black bacon)
looks so ''cute'' with a poached egg laying at the top of the Brioche. The egg yolk oozes out with the the yellowish yolk...looks good!

Caesar Salad with Grilled chicken

A simple dish. The portion was quite small... romaine lettuce, cheese, bacon bits, garlic croutons & Grilled chicken fillets. The star of the show is actually the Grilled chicken fillets. There were 3 grilled chicken fillets, seasoned with herbs and cajun seasoning. The chicken fillets were well- seasoned, a pity that it was a little on the dry side. The salad is not too creamy with bits of bacon bits that brings out the flavour.

After brunch, we mingle around, took photos... chit chat, introduce and share food experiences to each other. I enjoyed this food bloggers gathing and in fact, i looked forward to the next one.

Bao Fa Traditional Food

Baofa tradional kitchen, lcoated under HDB flat blk 202, whipped up some good dishes at affordable prices.

I came to noe abt them while seArching HGW & Best Food Online. Their speciality is the Claypot rice and Pork Knuckle. There wasn't much customers when i arrive(ard 11am). I looked through the simple menu and ordered the homemade egg tofu and sambal kangkong.

The sambal Kangkong arrived in less than 5 mins, efficent!
The kangkong were stir-fried with their special sambal chilli which were not too spicy and oily.

The Home-made egg tofu

This looks so pretty! The egg tofu is served in a casserole and it is shaped into a dome. The simple casserole consists of some fishcake, 2 prawns, sotongs, carrots and mushrooms. I like the texture of the tofu... it is very smooth, melts in ur mouth. You do not need to actually bite but swallow it!

A simple but no frills coffeeshop, serving ci-zhar dishes at affordable prices. Try not to over-order as their portion is quite huge.

Restoran Rasa Hakka(Taman Sri Terbau)

Today is a rainy day...
So i had to wear slippers.
I almost fell on the slippery ground.

Restoran Rasa Hakka is an old hakka restaurant located at Taman Sri Tebrau
It's quite easy to locate as u enter Taman Sri Terbau, popular among Tourist.
What is commonly found in Hakka cuisine? Hakka Lei cha, Hakka fried pork, Hakka YTF?

I ordered a plate of stir-fried kangkong to go with my YTF.
The difference btw Hakka YTF and Teochew YTF is the meat used and hakka ytf is served in soup form.
Hakka YTF used mackeral fish and minced pork while teochew version is mainly fish meat. The YTF are priced at RM 1/PC- which is pretty steep for a pc of ytf.
The tofu is wrapped with generous amount of minced fish and pork.
The soup is rich in yellow beans and i think they added a little msg to it.
However, i still prefer YTF served in the dry version and dip it in chilli/ sweet sauce!

Zi Yean Restuarant

A little gem in Bukit Merah.
This restaurant is owned by Chef Fook Wing Tin who specialised in Cantonese Cuisine.
There are 2 Zi Yean Restaurant there- one caters to dim sum and the other, Zi-char.
They are opened 7 in the morning, serving dim sums & u r entitled to 50% off dim sum if u order between 7-11am(excl. take away). The zi-char dishes are only served from 11am onwards.

I chose to dine at the dim sum place which is not air-conditioned as i can save on the 7% GST & 10% svc charge. I find it a hassle to choose seats as the interior is very warm and stuffy. I was served by a guy who took my orders. The guy speak cantonese which i could not understand. I tried pointing the dishes name to him but he doesnt seem to understand. There were a communication barrier between 2 of us. I took quite a while to order the dishes.

I ordered:

1x House Tofu
1x stir-fried caixin with dace and balck beans

I saw the auntie bring the food from the restaurant next door to my table. I realised that the ci-zhar dishes are cooked in the air-conditioned restaurant and brought to ur table if u chose to dine at the dim-sum place. It's a little troublesome and unhygienic.

House tofu

This is really very smooth and good. There were 5 tofu squares, being deep-fried and cooked in light oyster sauce. Though the tofu were deep-fried, the outer layer is not very thick and in fact it's juicy. The tofus were big pcs and not like other places which have very thick batter and small serving of tofu. The tofus were then garnished with some dried shrimps. When u eat it together, the taste is shiok and marvellous!

Stir-fried caixin with dace and black beans

I think they used the whole can of black beans with dace. There were just too much and it seems a little unproportionate for the serving of caixin. Neverthless, the veggies were not too oily and salty.

Though there were some communication barrier here, the food is generally delicious and price is quite reasonable. It's quite having tim sum or cantonese cuisine here. U r also entitled to discounts if u r celebrating ur birthday month.

Bi Feng Tang

Bi Feng tang,located at Food Republic of Wisma Atria. They serve some decent cantonese cuisine.

Their popular dishes are the roast chicken and noodles. Most customers orser the noodle soup. Though the ''restaurant'' is quite small, there are still some spaces to sit in.

I ordered :

1X seasonal greens
1X deep-fried tofu in chef's sauce

The greens arrived promptly, the veggies were blanched and fried in garlic. It was not to oily and the leaves were crunchy.

There were 6 ''mantou-looking'' tofu being served. The tofu were cut into smal pcs, dip in batter and dep-fried til crispy and golden brown. I feel that the interior is not warm enough. If the interior is warm, there would be ''smoke'' coming out but there isn't. The batter is crispy but too thick. Thus, i feel like eating more flour than tofu.

The staff seemed not to understand english and even mandarin. I find it difficult to communicate and simply jus point the food item to her. The staff simply walked away and call out another staff to assist me. I think there is a need for some service training.

Vegetarian Restaurant(Taman Sentosa)

Initially i wanted to have lunch at Restoran Bamboo. However, when i reached there, the doors were closed and the uncle selling durians told me they are closed on every alt tuesday. It's such bad luck!

I walked along the road and saw a signboard: Vegetarian restaurant, thus i followed the sign and reach upon a newly opened vegetarian restaurant. The restaurant is quite small, selling only a few items such as fried beehoon, rice and some dishes.

The pictures of the food are pasted on the walls so i just pointed what i want to the uncle. I ordered a claypot tofu and stir-fried veggies.
I waited for almost 20mins for the food to arrive at my table(meanwhile i read some newspapers). I asked the uncle and he told me that the chef just arrived. Oh my goodness! u should have informed me earlier.

The claypot tofu consits of abt 3 pcs of tofu, some mushrooms, carrots and brocolli, cooked in a gooey gravy.The ingredients were very little. I couldnt complain much as i paid only RM5 for that mini claypot.

The veggies
The chef did not mix the salt well together. Some of the leaves were salty while some were fine. I did not think much of that.

I feedback to the uncle and he told me that it would not happen the next time. However, i would not visit this restaurant again.

Just noodles

Just noodles, located beside Muthu's curry serves some decent set lunch.
They are under the same company as Just Acia.

The set lunch are popular here. I prefer to order ala-carte.
Thus, i ordered:

1x small spinach tofu
1x steamed dumplings
1x seasonal greens.

The dumplings are served shortly within 5 mins. The skin is very thin and delicate. Each dumpling is wrapped with some meat and it burst out with some tasty juice in each bite, just like xlb. However, the meat is very little.

The veggies are poached lightly, served with abalone sauce and sprinkled with fried shallots. Simple.

The Spinach tofu is one of their signature item here. However, it fails to impress me. I could not taste any spinach except to see the greenish algae looking on the surface if the egg tofu. The egg tofu is not smooth and in fact, it taste rough.... a little horrible. The outer skin of the egg tofu is also hard and tasteless. I thought it was surposed to be crispy when it's being deep-fried. Im disappointed with this dish.

It's lunch time and there wasnt a single customer in the restuarant except myself. The price of the food is reasonable but the quality needs some improvement. No service charge.

Miao Yi Vegetarian Restaurant

Tucked in Ulu corner of Coronation plaza, this vegetarian restaurant is a hidden gem.
I have read several positive reviews from HGW abt this restaurant serving delicious & affordable vegetarian food.

I was served by this friendly staff who recommended their siganture dish: Sandwich beancurd skin. I also ordered a plate of oyster sauce caixin.

The caixin with oyster sauce is served shortly. They garnish the vegetables with some fried gluten which is crispy yet addictive. However, i felt that the oyster sauce is a little salty though.

The signature dish: sandwich beancurd skin never fail to impress me. The beancurd skin is deep-fried till golden-brown and crispy. They topped it with vegetarian ham ,a slice of cucumber and drizzled with some teriyaki sauce. The combination is heavenly! The beancurd skin is crispy and also juicy inside while the vegetarian ham added a little saltiness. I fell in love with this dish and polish up the remaining 5pieces.

Service here is friendly. One good thing is that they do not charge any service charge.

Canton-i

Canton-i, a hongkong restaurant,located at level 3 of orchard ion.
The pinkish colour of the restaurant caught my attention and attract me to try the food there. What is commonly found in Hongkong restaurants? Dim sums!

There was already a few tables when i arrived(around 11am). There were lanterns hanging on the ceiling which i think makes the ambience look chic and retro.I looked through the menu and the friendly and helpful captain helped me with the ordering. He recommended the Steamed fishmaw and prawn dumplings.

I Ordered:

1X stir-fried kangkong with japanese miso
1X steamed fishmaw and prawn dumplings
1X panfried chives dumplings.

The kangkong arrived shortly. The kangkong was stir-fried with bean paste and some minced pork. Although it may look simple but they have prepared it quite well.

The pan-fried chives dumplings were served with vinegar. I find the skin a little too thick and i prefer the skin to be a little more charred. The ingredients consits of chives, minced pork and shrimps. The chives tend to ''over-cover'' the minced pork and prawns. I feel that the mixture is a little too bland and perhaps a dash of soy sauce would help.

The star of the show - The steamed fish maw with prawn dumplings.
This is heavenly. It comes pipping hot with 3 steamed dumplings. The dumplings were topped with tobiko(fling fish roe) which add a little crunch.
The dumplings consist of 2 layers- the fish maw and the minced prawn. Fish maw contains collagen and it's good for complexion!
The minced prawn contains water chestnut which gives a crunchy texture. The mixture is also flavourful. The dumplings were steamed in an eggy broth which taste naturally sweet. This dish is strongly recommended to the ladies as it is good for complexion!

The service here is friendly and helpful. The captains were efficent and prompt in refilling the water.

I finally made up my mind and register for the Foundation certificate in Biomedical sciences. It has been my interest to study abt human cells, drugs and medicine. I was suffering in the hands of hospitality operations and finally i can free myself.
Schol would start tentatively on 15 March 2010. I can forsee myself getting a Bachelor Degree.

Queenstown/Commonwealth

Commonweath Blk 40A Food Centre

This is a very old food centre, comprising 2 levels. I Had never been here before but surfing through HGW, i knew there are a few stalls listed in. One such example is Sing kee chicken rice.

I wanted to try the Queenstown Patong curry rice which i heard is quite popular. However, most of the food wasn't ready. Thus, i went to the other curry rice stall opposite. It's such a coincidence! The auntie was the lady who sell fish soup previously at Clementi Food Market and now she is here selling curry rice. I decided to buy the curry rice from her.

Besides the popular chicken rice, there's also a stall selling popiah- Queenstown popiah. This stall won thebest food award and a few other awards as well. I bought a roll of popiah($1.20). The wining factor lies in the popiah skin which is delicately soft and thin. It is able to hold the ingredients firmly without breaking the skin. The turnip taste sweet and have the oomph factor. It's a good try if u r looking for a good popiah.

Well, the auntie told me that the food centre would be undergoing renovations very soon. This is an advantage as the food centre looks very old and run-down. A revamp of the food centre would certainly attract many people.

Restoran Fook Hua(Taman Pelangi)

I walked a long distance today.
I realised that there wasnt any good restaurants near plaza pelangi hence i decided to walk further down to search for any restaurants that have yummy food.
I walked towards taman pelangi, i saw lavender bistro and season's bakery.
Further down, i saw quite a number of number eating noodles.
I didnt see the signboard of the restaurant but requested for the menu to have a look.

Restoran Fook Hua specialised in Cantonese roast and mainly Hong Kong food. Dim sums! They have it here....
I ordered a plate of stir-fried caixin and Beancurd with dou gen.

Stir-fried caixin

The vegetables were stir-fried with pcs of garlic which were fragrant. The vegetables reamined crunchy and not over-cooked.

Beancurd with dou gen

One large of egg beancurd, deep-fried and cooked with mushrooms, green peas, carrots and dou gen. (Dou gen is actually beancurd skin.)
Oh.... i love the smoothness of the beancurd. It literally melts in my mouth in every bite and the skin... crispy! The rest of the ingredients complement very well with the beancurd. The gravy that is served wasnt perfectly fine, not too salty.
Well, it's quite exciting to explore the restaurants in JB, especially due to the yummy food and currency exchange.

Vexed!

Dear Diary,

I'm feeling very vexed these days... all becos of my family problem. Dad & mom are facing some problems in their relationship. It's all dad's fault for bringing the idiotic china woman into our life. My family has always been quite blissful but ever since dad got to know abt the china woman, there would always be quarrels between dad n mom. I knew dad would always keep quiet whenever mom scold him. If he would to be angry, i guess there would be chaos. I blame myself as a daughter, i do not know who to side with. Both of them are equally important to me and i do not want to lose any of them. I JUST want them to get together, even if they do not talk to each other, better than dad keep looking for the china woman. Can somebody pls advice me?

Mian Mian Ju Dao Farmosa (The Cathy)

It is a small restaurant located at the basement of The Cathy. It was so quiet when i visit this restaurant(around 12pm). I was the only customer thus i find it quite surprising when there wasn't any other customer in the restaurant besides myself.
Menu is simple, there wasn't any signature dishes. I ordered a plate of stir-fried kangkong with garlic and hotplate tofu.

The hotplate tofu took about 15 mins to arrive, served pipping hot on a hotplate. There were several pcs of egg tofu on the hotplate, cooked in special chilli sauce. The outer layer of the egg tofu remains a little crispy but sticky. The sauce is a little on the oily side.

Stir-fried kangkong

Horrendous! The vegetables were covered in oil! My lips were ''shiny'' and ''glossy'' when i took a few mouthful. This dish is certainly oily. I feedback to the manager in charge and he would look into this matter.

Service is neither here nor there. Since there wasn't any other customers, the staff just linger/sit around to do their own things. Based on this experience, it is unlikely that i would go back again.

Restoran GU ZHA LANG (Taman Sentosa)

There are quite a number of restaurants in Taman Sentosa area. GU ZHA LANG is one restaurant which is well-recommended. GU ZHA LANG (GU ZAO REN) TAIWAN Porridge serve TAIWAN porridge as well as some well-cooked dishes. What are some dishes that is strongly recommended to eat with the sweet potato porridge? Mui Cai Pork blly, omelette with oysters/shrimps, eggplant with minced pork or simply steamed fish?

I ordered a plate of stir-fried caixin and deep-fried home-made beancurd.

Home-made beancurd
This is indeed home-made. From the first bite, i could taste a little salty and frafrant after-taste. They must have added cuttlefish or salted fish to make so frgrant. The outer layer is so crispy and the interior is warm. Strongly recommended.

Stir-fried caixin is a little oily.But, it's meant to be eaten with the porridge to reduce the greasy-ness. I like the minced garlic that has been deep-fried and sprinkled at the top. It adds fragrant to the vegetables.

Towards the end of the meal, they provide chinese dessert- liu wen soup. I find it too sweet so i didnt manage to finish it. Well, it's free so it's up to u whether u want it.

Lerk Thai Bistro(Woodlands Civic Centre)

You can see the bistro when walking towards woodlands civic centre.
It's located beside mc cafe and it's spacious and cosy.
The set lunch looks interesting- $8.90 for a main dish, rice and drink.
I forgo that deal.
I went for ala-carte.

What is a ''must-order'' for me when i visit a thai restaurant?
Green curry chicken? Tom Yum Goong?
It's papaya/ mango salad.
They are excellent as appetitizers.
Not to forget thai fish-cakes/ prawn cakes.
They are popular thai dishes.

I had a serving of papaya salad with prawns and Home-made tofu with prawns.
The papaya salad($9.50)
The serving is incredibly small! I would expect a bigger portion for $9.50. 2 miserable prawns on top of sliced papaya with lime juice. It was way too simple and the prawns were unfresh.

The home-made tofu (7.50)

4 muffin-like tofus(mixed tofu,egg, some minced prawns and long beans) were being deep-fried till golden brown. The interior was very warm when i break my fork into it. The first bite was ok, nothing spectcular. When i took a few more bites, i could not taste anything. It was way too bland and almost tasteless. I mean... tofu is bland but they should have added some seasoning to it. A complete disappointment.

The service here is a little slack and perhaps a smile would make a difference.

Prima taste kitchen Is under PFS PTE LTD is a quick-service restaurant which serves a selection of Singapore favourites. At Prima Taste Kitchen at Centrepoint, the menu features Singapore Cuisine.

At Prima Taste Kitchen at Centrepoint, it’s the menu features a selection of dishes such as Sliced Fish Soup, Black Pepper Beef with Rice and Sliced Fish Berwangi with Rice in addition to the “must-tries” such as Laksa, Hainanese Chicken Rice and Singapore Curry Chicken. Weekly specials also await patrons, who can look forward to savouring iconic Singapore dishes like Char Kway Teow, Mee Goreng.

The popiah, deep-fried soft shell crab and the chicken floss tofu are the popular dishes here. I want to sample a variety of their food thus i ordered the Sampler:

Chye Sim in soy sauce
Kailan in soy sauce
Deep-fried tofu with chicken floss.

You can choose any 3 items from the menu($9.50). All of them come in sampler portion(around 1/2 of the original).
The veggies were blanched and served with soy sauce and fried shallots.
The tofu is deep-fried, garnished with spring onions, mayonnaise and chicken floss. The combination is tasty and not greasy. I like this!

The service here is efficent, warm and friendly. Do try some of the popular Singapore dishes such as mee siam, chicken rice...etc.Grab some prima brand curry home if you like.

Ngai Hakka Yong Tau Foo

Ngai Hakka Yong tau foo, located at level 2 of Bukit TImah Shopping Centre. This small cafe serve some delicious hakka cuisine. The cafe itself is quite small but there are some tables for you to sit. The hakka dishes- Yong tau foo set, braised pork belly, hakka thunder tea rice, curry chicken, abacus seeds are sold here. You can order the sets or simply choose the number of pcs for the yong tau foo. (Each pc cost $0.70).The meatball soup is also quite popular here as they made the meatball themselves.

I ordered the Hakka Yong tau foo set(w/out rice)-$4.
It comes with a pc of tau kwa, eggplant, bittergourd and 2 pc of deep-fried beancurd sheets. I must admit the portion is small but it's indeed very delicious. The tau kwa is wrapped with some meat fillings and deep-fried. It taste a little salty yet so fragrant. The beancurd sheets are so crispy and taste even better with their home-made sauce. I even order extra serving of the beancurd sheets and tau kwa.

The service here is very friendly. They would ask you politely for your order and bring it to your seat. This small cafe is indeed worth a visit.

After lunch, i went to ngee ann poly open house to look for Xuelian to pass her the present as i could not attend her birthday party at night. I tour around the campus, played some games. I wanted to stay longer but the weather is killing me and i felt so tired after walking around. I grabbed the goodie bag and took a bus home.

Teck Singapore Restaurant

Teck Sing Restaurant, located at Taman Sentosa, Taman Sutera. This restaurant is famous for it's paper wrapped herbal chicken. Celebraties from Singapore went there to try their dishes and made very good comments abt their herbal chicken(better than bamboo restaurant beside), indonesian curry prawns and curry fishhead. I have not tried their herbal chicken before as i do not like anything with chinese herbs.
However, im a big fan of their curry fishhead.

Today, i ordered Vegetarian goose with mushrooms,stir-fried caixin and curry fishead(T.A). All for RM 41.
The stir-fried caixin with oyster sauce is a simple dish, it's not salty and in fact not oily at all. Vegetarian gooose is actually made from deep-fried dried beancurd sheets. This dish consist of the vegetarian goose, golden needle mushroom, mushrooms and carrots and cook in a thin gravy. I like the simplicity of the dish- The golden needle mushrooms are well-cooked and the vegetarian goose is very tasty!

Teck Sing is quite popular in Taman Sentosa. If you are unfamiliar with the place, feel free to ask anyone there and you would find ur way there.

Polytechnic open house

It's the annual polytechnic open house from 7-9 Jan.
I would be visiting ngee ann polytechnic on sat to meet up my friends who is involved in some activities there.

Anyway, i went to Jb today and bought 2 pairs of shoes, 7 pcs of t-shirt, 2 pairs of shorts... whoo... spent alot of $. EVERYTHING seemed to be a bargain when i shop there(due to currency exchange). Well, there isnt any delicious food there so i just settled for a simple vegetarian meal.

The results for '0' levels would be out on monday, 2pm. Im very nervous yet excited as it would decide my fate then.

Divine Realm Vegetarian Food

I was so happy today because daddy bought a jade pendant for me. It's quite exp... cost ard $230.I did not insist on buying but since the salesperson alr print out the invoice, daddy had no choice but to pay. He asked me to use my own pocket $ to pay for it but i did not want to. I want him to pay for it, if he doesnt want to then forget it.

For lunch, there isnt any good food in Hougang area. There's only 1 vegetarian food place which i think it's worth visiting- Divine Realm Vegetarian.
This vegetarian food place is located under the HDB flat. It's very crowded especially during the 1st and 15th day of the lunar month. It has been quite some time since i had lunch here. I rmb their mutton curry and roti john was very delicious.

Today, i opted for the cz-zhar dish- The stir-fried emperor vegetable with sea cucumber and a glutinous rice spring roll.
Emperor vegetable is not commonly found in cz-zhar places and not many people like the taste. I like the ''sea-cucumber'' which is a little crunchy and soft. The texture resembles a little like the real sea cucumber but it's slightly crunchier.

The glutinous spring roll is very oily. Even though they deep-fried it before serving to me, it's quite cold on the inside. The glutinous rice mixture taste the glutinous rice kueh which consist of dried mushrooms.

This vegetarian place serve quite a lot of stuff and their la-mian is quite delicious.

For this week, i would be going to Jb more often thus the reviews written would be on the restaurants/ stalls in JB.

Chuan Xin Restaurant(Opp Taman Pelangi)

I was caught attention by the big banner hanging outside the restuarant which states RM 5 for a small bowl of abalone kway teow soup. Thus, i decided to try this out. This restaurant's signature dish is the Abalone Kway Teow Soup. The soup itself consist of sliced abalone, pig liver, prawns, minced pork and some lettuce- All for $5(s)! I didnt notice the price that it is damn cheap. I flipped through their menu, diffcult to decide what to order. Fish maw soup? Pacific clam soup? Fishball soup? Since Im not a fan of soupy stuff, i go for the deep-fried items. I ordered a plate of stir-fried oyster caixin and deep-fried beancurd skin with fishmeat. I felt that the caixin is too salty as they used too much oyser sauce. They sprinkled fried shallots thus the vegetables is a little oily. I like the beancurd skin with fishmeat. It is so crispy and addictive. Every piece is wrapped with fishmeat with some crunchy stuffs and deep-fried till golden brown. One good thing is that the beancurd sheets are not salty but they are damn oily! The crunchy staff taste like chestnut but it's not sweet. I asked the person in charge what the crunchy stuff was. it is actually turnip! Alright, quite innovative but would be better if it's chestnut.

I paid RM 10 for the above 2 dish which is considered very reasonable to us S'poreans.A few celebratities from Singapore also went there for the abalone soup so i guess it must be quite tasty. I shall try it next week....

Wuhan Food House

Aw.... the coffeeshop opp my house is undergoing a 3wks renovation. How boring it would be when it's closed. Dad would have to go to another place for coffee and I, would have to stay at home instead.

Today, I went to Chinatown... Chinatown Point, in search for Wuhan Food.
Wuhan food house is located at the basement of Chinatown Point. The location is very accessible. Yu wouldnt miss it when u r walking towards Hong Lim complex.
Shanghai is famous for XLB, Beijing: Roast Duck, Sichuan: Mapo Doufu. What About Wuhan?The answer is Duck and Tou Pi.
Different parts of the duck such as Head, internal organs, feet, tongue are being briased. I wouldnt dare try it as i do not like duck meat.
Another speciality is Tou Pi. I thought it was Braised Tau Kwa. However, the waitress told me the ''Tou Pi'' is a snack made from glutinous flour and it is savoury.

They have set lunch for 1 pax($7.80): Pork/chicken/seafood

I ordered Stir-fried caixin and Mapo Doufu. I requested the veg to be less salty and oily. However, i saw still see a layer of oil at the top of the sauce. My lips turned ''shiny'' after eating it.

The mapo tofu is meant for sharing, though there wasnt much tofu in it, they were generous with the minced pork. It wasnt very spicy but my tongue is a little numb after eating it.

It's worth a try if u are interested in Wuhan's cuisine. Many older folks would order coffee and sit outside the shop to chit chat.

Xiao Xuan Feng

I had lunch @ Xiao Xuan Feng (Tiong Bahru Plaza). There's only 2 stores in Singapore- Tiong Bahru Plaza and Hougang Mall. But who would want to travel to the east side since im staying @ the West part of singapore.

Xiao Xuan Feng is located at the ''outside'' of tiong bahru plaza. You can locate it by just following the direction sign after u alight from the MRT Station. The restaurant itself is quite small. You can choose to sit inside/ outside but it's more spacious outside.

The menu is divided into 2- Tim Sum and Main dishes. The signature dish are being highlighted and pictures being illustrated. I asked for recommendations and the waitress who served me told me everything is recommended. I ordered the Stir-fried white cabbage which is under chef's recommendations. The white cabbage were stir-fried with minced garlic and a little oyster sauce. It wasnt too salty and they were crunchy. I like this but portion a little too small.

There's a 25% discount for tim sum between 10am-8.30pm(valid only for dine in). There wasnt much variety to choose from but u can get ur usual har gaw, XLB, Siew Mai. I actually ordered the deep-fried tofu but when the dish arrived, it became beancurd roll with prawns. I think they made a mistake but the waitress told me that was my order. I did not want to make a fuss out of it so i gladly accept. The beancurd roll with prawns consist of 2 deep-fried beancurd, with a few tiny shrimps in it. The shrimps were tasteless and at least the beancurd sheets were crispy. Many restaurants fail to do well in this dish. The shrimps were either unfresh, beancurd skin too thick or the rolls were too soggy. So far, i have not taste a good one.

The service here is friendly, probably there wasnt much customers at that time. Generally speaking, the food is quite acceptable and price is quite reasonable.

The Eastern Restaurant

I must agree that Centrepoint shopping centre is truely a gourmet place for food.
A few restaurants: Teochew city seafood rest, Noodle Place restaurant, Prima Taste Restaurant, The Eastern Restaurant, Lerk Thai, Iciban Boshi, The Soup Restaurant... can be found there.

I intend to try all the restaurants there(if i could). But first, which restaurant shall i go first? Alright, i shall start from the back, The Eastern Restaurant.
The Restaurant is famous for the Collagen Noodles. I mean most restaurant or every establishment would have it's own signature dish AND they are popular for the Collagen noodles. A few certificates are displayed outside, they have won several accolades for their deep-fried pipa tofu, noodles, pork belly..etc.

I ordered the Recommended dish: Deep-fried pipa tofu and a plate of kang kong stir-fried with preserved soy beancurd.

The pipa tofu took abt 10 mins to arrive, pipping hot. 4 small little oval patties being presented on individual spoon. It looks so lovely(presentation). Be caution when u bite into it, it burns ur tongue as it's hot on the inside. The dish uses tofu, some minced pork, prawns, water chestnuts, mushrooms, carrots... etc(if i could name all) minced together and deep-fried till crispy. The mixture was tasty and each bite is crunchy(water chestnut), soft(tofu) and sweet( the prawns and pork). I fell in love with this.

The stir-fried kangkong with preserved soy beancurd is a little on the oily side. I requested it to be less salty as the used preserved soy beancurd in it.

They charge $1.50 for the peanuts(tasteless and awful) and $0.30 for the towels. Next time i would ask them to remove the peanuts.

Today is 01.01.2010, Year of the Tiger and I would start afresh.
My target/ wish for the year:
1 ) Pass my GCE O levels maths.
2 ) Get in poly( course of my choice)
3 ) Family problems solved
4 ) Travel to Japan/ Korea
5 ) Join Usana Health Sciences and earn big bucks.

These are my plans for now... may add more if required. Actually i hope my 21st birthday would be delayed cos i still do not want to ''grow up''.

Today, i went to City Sqaure Mall, Singapore 1st eco mall. Actually the mall wasnt very big and infact quite quiet. They need some time for people to get to know this mall. I had lunch at Zen Fut Sai Kai Vegetarian Restaurant at Kitchener road. This vegetarian Restaurant is quite small and probably u wouldnt notice it. It's located just a few doors away Putien Restaurant.

The interior is quite dull and small, probably sit around 8 tables. The menu itself is not quite extensive. I ordered the Stir-fried kailan with beancurd balls ($8).
The dish arrive pipping hot. This dish consist of kailan, abalone mushrooms, carrots and few huge beancurd balls cooked in a thick gravy. Im glad that the portion is just perfect for me and the gravy is not salty.( I dislike anything that is salty)
The beancurd balls were huge and the texture is not soggy even though it's cooked in the gravy.

The place is simple and probably not well-known and im glad i found the restuarant through HGW.

I did not sleep well last night... becos my family is having some problems.
Well, went out with dad today, was hoping to longbang to orchard. Who knows he went to Telok Blangah to look for his friend. His friend opened an orhanic soymilk shop called Soy Good. The address is blk 8, telok blangah crescent. Do support him ok.
We had a simple lunch there, at least i do not need to pay.

Then, we headed to Usana. His friend is a strong believer of usana and obsessed with it. To him, usana is everything and that's y i say his nick is USANA SIAO.

Today is the lunar 15th day thus i went to waterloo street to pray and have vegetarian food at Kwan Im Vegetarian Restaurant.

Kwan Im vegetarian restaurant gets very busy especially during CNY, lunar 1st & 15th day. The devotees would get some pastries or vegetarian food here. Their deep-fried spring rolls($2.50) are quite popular here.

I wanted something light thus i ordered the braised beancurd sheets with black beans sauce. It comes with some cabbage, capsicums, mushrooms, beancurd sheets and fried gluten, cooked in black beans sauce. Fortunately the black beans sauce is not salty and the ingredients are well-cooked. It was a little expensive for $8. However, vegetarian food sometimes cost more than meat.

The deep-fried spring roll is not really worth the $2.50. The fillings are quite little and not well-marinated enough and the skin is too thick.

The service here is quite friendly. You would have to share tables if u are dining alone.

Mum came home early today & brought back a pc of bad news. She went to the doctor and they suspect mum had diabetes! I was shocked.... how could this happen to her? Diabetes is a scary illness. I would have to control her diet from now onwards....

Caigenxiang vegetarian, a small vegetarian cafe located under HDB flats.
IT was rather empty when i arrived at the restarant, only one of the staff is busy plucking beansprouts. I asked her for some recommendations and she showed me the menu. I ordered the one of the chef's speciality: Classic Caigen xiang and Braised Tofu with vegetables.

Classic Caigenxiang took a short while to arrive, pipping hot from the wok. This dish consist of red cabbage, eggplants, capsicums and asparagus cook in bean sauce. My only verdict, too salty. I only manage to pick out the red cabbage as the rest of the ingredients were just too salty.

The braised tofu with assorted vegetables were slighly above average. There were few leaves of white cabbage, carrots and mushrooms, braised with 6 pcs of tofu( slighly pan-fried). At least it was not salty thus it's passable.

Most people order take-away here. The set meal here cost $3.50, $3.80(take-away)consist of a bowl of plain rice and 3 side dishes. The service here is generally okay as there's only one staff there who serve and order.

Mondays.... arrh! monday blues
I had lunch @ ca-zhar(great world cty) today.

Though the resturant is opened for biz, no one stood outside to attend to me.
I walked in and saw two customers having some food.
Finally the waitress greets me and showed me the menu and walked away.
I looked through the menu and decided to order but nobody was in the restaurant.
The manager was busying using the laptop and i called out to somebody but no response. I decided to approach the manager and he quickly apologized.

I ordered the braised bamboo pith, canopy with home-made tofu. The dish took abt 10 mins to arrive. The portion is quite small, just enough for one pax. 4 cubes of home-made tofu, some shredded canpoy and few leaves of vegetables, it's a little expensive for a dish. Well, the dish is not salty and the broth is quite tasty. A pity that the so-called home-made tofu is simply egg tofu from supermarket.

I felt a little uneasy when the waitresses stare at me while eating. The restaurant is very quiet even during lunch hr. One of the captain tried to entertain the other customer to liven up the atmosphere. I praised her for her good service and she was so happy that kept wishing me luck. An enjoyable dining experience.

After lunch, i took the shuttle bus back to city hall and went to DBS bank @ raffles city. Looking at my watch, 12.10pm. I saw the q was quite long and thought it would take abt at most 20 mins. There was only 1 service counter that is available and the staff is super slow in doing her work. All the other ppl in the q is feeling impatient right now. Finally going to be turn but the staff walked out of her counter and started explaining things to the previous customer. WTF!!! I was so angry! The ppl in the q started shouting and grumbling, they even scolded the manager of the bank. This is the longest q ever. When i left the bank, i looked at my wacth, 1pm exactly. I actually q up for 50 mins for this bloody svc!

It has been quite some time since i visit mayim.
I rmb i enjoyed eating their food abt 1 yr ago.
Their standard of food had dropped quite alot.

I had lunch here with mum.
There was already a short Q outside the shop when it was 11am.
The ambience of the restaurant is good and the waitress is quite polite.
After flipping through the thick menu,I ordered:

1X beancurd roll with carrots, mushrooms and vermicelli ( $3.80)
1X poached caixin with chicken broth ($4.20)
1X marinated peanuts with caipoh ($ 3.50)
1x steamed spiced chicken feets (2.00)
1X congee with barley and carrots ($2.00)
1X deep-fried shrimp roll ($2.20)
1X stewed beef tendon ($6.50)
1X ginseng, carrot and sugarcane drink($3.50)

The congee arrived first, it is served in a huge bowl. The congee is quite watery, with bits of barley and mashed carrots in it. Mum felt that it was too bland.

The marinated peanuts and caipoh was a letdown. The peanuts was salty and not fragrant. Only the caipoh is edible.

Steamed spiced chicken feets steamed with balck beans and a little chilli to add some spiciness. Though it's not salty, it taste ordinary.

Poached caixin in chicken broth, a simple dish. I counted the stalks of caixin- 7 stalks. I felt that it was way too expensive for $4.20.

Panfried beancurd roll with carrots, vermicelli and mushrooms, this is the better dish out of all. At least the beancurd sheets are warm and the fillings are fragrant and well-marinated.

Deep-fried shrimp roll, a let-down. The shrimp was too mushy, probably not too fresh. The portion is too little too.

The ginseng drink is not too bad. We were given honey to add in if it's too bitter.

The service here is generally good. They are still able to handle when there are quite alot of customers coming in. However, the standard of foods need some improvement.

Today had lunch at wen dao shi(geylang).
This is a 24hr tim sum place.
The best tim sum that i have tried is swee choon @ jalan besar.
However, they are only open at night.

The menu consist of more than 70 dishes, they have cze-char dishes other than tim sum. Since it's a PH today, it's packed with customers thus i had to sit right at the back.

I ordered:

steamed song fishhead with femented beans
Thai style hand of pork(foreleg)

This song fish head is only valid for dine in & i had to wait abt 15-20mins.
Abt 5-6 pcs of song fishhead, steamed with chilli femented beans and lard. The lard is oohs... siok! Very few places now serve lard due to health reasons. The fish is quite fresh, not much muddy taste. However, the femented beans are really salty! I even requested it to be less salty but the saltiness really....

Thai style hand of pork. This foreleg of pork is deep-fried and cooked in thai chilli and onions. The hand of pork has a thick layer of fats which is extremely rich in collagen(good for the skin).Ladies can consume more. However, eat in moderation.

This tim sum place have been here for many yrs. They are able to continue this biz as their food is quite good, price is reasonable and the people are efficient.

Today is x'mas eve, i wish everyone a merry x'mas.
I didnt celebrate x'mas as im a very ''traditional'' person.
It's also due to religious reason.

Anyway, im so glad that im the top reviewer in HGW & my photo is even pulished in the front page! It's kinda weird too...

Today i had lunch @ Hong Guo (Bugis Junction).
This small little restarant is located beside crystal jade cakery.
Their speciality is ''Guo Qiao Mian Xian'' a.k.a cross bridge noodles.
There's a story behind it which u would find out when u read from the menu.
There are 3 types versions- seafood, beef or pork.
It comes in a huge red bowl with steaming hot soup.
You have to add the meat first before adding the vegetables and then the vermicelli.
This noodle is quite popular in Yunnan.
You do not need to fly to yunnan to savour this anymore.

I ordered :
1x stir-fried kailan with black beans and dace
1x spicy chicken a.k.a ''la zi ji ding''.

This chicken dish is served shortly. I requested it to be slighly less salty but the waitress told me it was pre-marinated and then deep-fried. Well, the chicken is cut into bite-size, deep-fried and fried with sichuan peppercorns, dried chilli, peanuts and spring onions. It was a little spicy but addictive. It was like eating KFC popcorn chicken but is spicier. This is one of the popular dish in sichuan.

Stir-fried kailan with black beans and dace is not too spicy. The cook prepare the kailan very well, getting rid of the bitter taste of the leaves. The dace with black beans is not too salty, control the saltiness quite well.

The service here is a little laid-back. Most of the waitress are from P.R.C and they just concentrate in doing their work by serving. Perhaps they can try to give some recommendations to teh food as well.

Had lunch today @ Ke ren lai again.
I ordered the hakka yong tau foo and fried mixed vegetables.
The yong tau foo comes 5 pcs, each beancurd is stuffed with minced pork and mackeral fish. The beancurd is then served in yellow bean soup. Well, i prefer yong tau foo to be deep-fried and then cooked in the dry version. Rather the hakkas, prefer soup based.

The fried mixed vegetables is a little salty but would be good when eaten with rice.

I think this restaurant is one of the best in City square compared to the other food.

It's been quite some time since i went jb shopping.
Hence, i decided to go today.
I brought only RM 150 to shop. How i wish i brought more.
It's not really enough. I didnt get some of the things i wanted cos i have not enough $.

I had lunch @ Ke Ren Lai, a cantonese restaurant.
I ordered a 3 treasures( vegetables, mushrooms with pork, cabbage with pork and a pork pancake). Well, it's served in soup and everything is pork! I like the soup as it's quite tasty, ikan bilis soup. The pork pancake looks ordinary but they actually mince the pork together with dried oyster thus it's yummy! I want to try the hakka yong tau foo tmr!

I want to get alot of things... so i would go again tmr.

Count down 4 more days to x'mas. Im not excited as i do not celebrate this occasion.
So many things happen this yr.... n i hope it would be better yr for me next yr.

I had lunch @ Itacho sushi today.
The menu is simple and easy to read.
From single sushi to grilled items, there are pictures for you to see too.
I ordered :

1x tomato salad
1x deep-fried curry lobster with okra.

The matcha green tea was served to me almost immediately.
The tomato salad took not long to arrive. The presentation was good... almost too ''cute'' to eat it. Cherry tomatoes with lettuce with sesame dressing, simple and good.

The curry lobster with okra is a tempura dish thus it took a little longer TO prepare. 3 BATTERED tempura was served to me in a triangular plate. When i bite into it, i could taste the fragrant curry of the lobster meat and then the soft okra.... mmmm... yummilicious! The 3 tempura was served with tempura sauce. It would be better if there were some mayonnaise for dipping.

The presentation of the food is good, the service, ambience of the place is superb and most importantly, the price is very reasonable.

Chengdu trip Dec 2009- 13/12/09( sunday)

Finally it's the last day of our holiday trip. In the morning, we are given ample time for our shopping,The tour-guide had requested for late check-out.

After which we went to have lunch- the most awaited mushroom steamboat. Mind you, this steamboat cost RMB 200/pax. Yes, it's exp... but the soup base is tasty. They even sell the mushroom noodles by packets.

After lunch, we proceeded to the airport for our flight back to singapore. I wanted to spend more time here as it was so fun. Everyday we have nothing to think about but shopping, eating and relaxing. How i wish i can extend this hoilday trip.

When i board the taxi back from changi airport back to my house, i left my back-pack in the taxi. The taxi-diver was very talkative and i was so engrossed in talking to him thus i forgot to take my bag-pack. On the other hand, i cant blame anyone as it's my fault too. Luckily i rmb his car-plate number and his funny looking face. I had to call the customer svc ctr at 2.30am in the morning. I requeste for the bag-pack to be returned back to me and gosh! it cost 20 bucks as the taxi-driver is in orchard road and turn-on the meter, plus mid-nite fare.... I would never forget to take my things again.

I went to 313@ somerset today. It is a new shopping mall located beside orchard central. I think the location is very good as will attract the people working there to have lunch at the food republic @ level 5 whih is much biger than the one @ wisma atria. I was a little disappointed as basement 3 is not completed yet(many restuarants and food outlets are located at b3).

I walked ard the shopping mall, exploring each level. Finally i decided to have lunch at Din tai feng. Being served by several waitress, mainly from P.R.C, i ordered a cold vegetarian dish and a bowl of wanton with vegetables in chicken broth. The cold dish arrive shortly, it consists of kelp, beansprouts, vegetarian ham, vermicelli, carrots and the rest i could not figure out. It was a little spicy but it taste great as an appetitizer.

The vegetable wonton took not long to arrive. A bowl of 8 jumbo wontons with generous of pork and vegetable fillings. The fillings were well-marinated and juicy.
I add sichuan chilli and vinegar to it and i polished up the whole bowl.

The waitress were polite and prompt in serving tea. I like the service here and of course not to mention the XLB which i would try that the next visit.

After lunch, i took photo with santa claus. It's a free photo-shot with santa claus organised by 313 @ somerset. I think it's worth q-ing up for it to keep the photo as momento.

Chengdu trip Dec 2009- 12/12/09( saturday)

Today is a free & easy day. First, we are given time to tour Chunxi ROad( the orchard road of chengdu). After which we had our lunch at a herbal resturant and proceeded to Bao Shu Tang- a medical hall.

The people there offered us free foot massage and told us that tipping is not required and do not accept tips. I was quite surprised to see the ''massagers'' are actually people of my age and some even younger. I began to suspect their ability. I told them i do not want to massage my foot but my neck instead. The fellow simply lacks experience and press anywhere he likes... i told him to stop after 5 mins. I began to observe the rest. The ''massagers'' do not have any skills at all... they just pass their time by pressing and plucking people's foot. One of our tour members even joked whether his leg hair had fallen off.They are not supposed to accept tips but promote their products to us such as massage cream, plasters...etc. I hinted to my mum not to buy all those as it's useless and they want to cheat us. Well, we left the place empty-handed and in fact i feel it's a waste of time. I rather spent the time shopping at Chunxi road.

After the massage or shall i say torture? , we went to a park where some historical figures of the chinese history are located, took several photos and went for early dinner. I did not had my dinner with the rest as i want to save my stomach to sample the food from a popular restuarant near my hotel. The restuarant name is '' Long chao shou''- dummplings in chilli soup. I ordered stri-fried rabbit meat, bittergourd and chilled black fungus. It's my first time tasting rabbit meat and must admit it was delicious(better than beef, pork and chicken). The rabbit meat was stir-fried with sichuan peppercorns and their special chilli. My lips and tongue turned numb after eating it. After my dinner, i continue to shop before returning to my hotel room to sleep.

Chengdu trip Dec2009- 11/12/09(Friday)

Today we tour the most awaited... ''Panda Research Centre''. This is where the pandas lived other than the zoo in sichuan. I was able to see the pandas which are going to be brought to singapore.

Well, the panda are so lazy....eat, sleepy and shit. They would lean on the bamboo tree and eat the bamboo shoots. After which, shit... and off to sleep. They must have a cool environment in order to maintain their body temperature. They are so fortunate...how i wished to become a panda too.

Our tour guide told us that the panda fed on porridge during the sichuan earthquake. It's quite amazing that pandas could feed on porridge. They are the ''treasure'' of china so they must be treated with care. I noticed that many of the tourists came from the western countries. Even the president of US adopt a panda here and named it after his name.

Besides the black and white panda that we normally see, there are also another type of panda which looks like a fox with long tail. They are also species of panda but look quite differently. IMHO, i think the ''traditional'' panda looks more adorable.
After the trip to the Panda Research Centre, we shopped for panda assessories such as t-shirt, keychains...etc.

I was very disappointed with dad today. He initiated to sell the flat when i talked abt the china woman. Why would this family become like this? It's all because of his horny character, from young till old. MUm tolerated this for thirty over yrs yet his character still remain the same. He used to be a person who spend alot of time with us, spend quality time and talk to me nicely. However, since he got to know this slut, he changed completely. He would throw his temper and threatened to sell the flat and spilt up the family. I was very upset when i heard this. This slut came to sp again. I overheard dad telling his another '' china girlfriend''. The slut was forced to marry another man and she refused so she came to sp. I hate this slut! broke up my family. I promise to give dad some time to clear things up with her but he kept dragging it. Mum is quite strong, she is able to tolerate his nonsense but i cant! Even as her daughter, i cant stand it. If he were to be my husband, i would divorce him and demand compensation. Who cares if he die on the streets? If dad still continue to look for her and continue this ''relationship'', i would definately do something and perhaps to disown his dad. I think the relationship btw him & lily is quite unusual, i would continue to investigate further.

Chengdu trip Dec2009- 10/12/09(Thursday)

Today we tour ''kuanxiangzi), two alley namely narrow and broad.
It is one of the popular tourist area and even the locals love to come here for a stroll or simply play mahjong in the tea houses. There are quite a number of tea houses along the alley.The local folks can be found here, spending their time away playing mahjong and sipping tea. We are told to observe the historical building as well as the people there.

We are given abt 1.5 hrs for free and easy tour. First, i went to try out the '' dipping gold from the ears''. The locals set up a small little stall, put out two chairs and used some special instruments to ''dig gold'' from my ears. The pther tour members simply jus watch me as they do not have the courage to try it. Well, no harm trying it out. In fact, it was quite relaxing- siok! I also went to the ''Panda House''- a shop which specialised in panda assessories(branded). Of course, the quality is better than those u get from the streets. At night, we stayed at Meishan hotel. The tour guide organised the 'Sichuan Opera' for us- we paid for it. It is one of the most popular cultural item which is a 'must watch' when u come to sichuan. Sichuan opera consists of dance, puppet show, ''bian lian'' and musical performance. The caucasians love to watch the opera. ''Bian lian'' is one of the most popular show and difficult to learn. Andy lau tried to learn from the master there but failed to learn it completely. Well, some of the performance is simply quite boring so i took a small nap. However, i felt that the ''Sichuan Opera'' is worth watching.

Lunch today with mum. I wanted to treat her to Myammar cuisine as she had never try it b4. Hanthi treated me to myammar food a few months ago and i feel it was quite tasty.

We ate at Inle myammar restaurant, it was the only myammar restaurant in singapore. We ordered :

1x pickled tea leaves salad
1x pennywort salad
1x fried gourd and tofu fritters
1x myammar coffee
1x myammar tea

The salad arrived shortly. I requested for the ommission of peanuts yet i can still see it on my pennywort salad. I do not noe what is pennywort but this is still as tasty as before. The pickled tea leaves salad is highly recommended. It consists of dried shrimps, peanuts, sesame seeds, fried broad beans, myammar tea leaves, lime, chilli padi and some parsley. It taste a little sourish due to the lime. The taste is quite unique as i have not try it before. The broad beans were lightly fried and it was very crunchy.

Deep-fried gourd, i thought it was bitter gourd instead.
The fried gourd looks like a banana fritter but it is actually a slice of hairy gourd, coated with some flour and deep-fried. According to the waiter there, it is a popular food in myammar cuisine.

Todu fritters, made from chickpea flour is a triangular pc of fritter. It is almost taste-less when eating on it's own. You have to dip it into the special tamarind dip in order to enjoy the flavour. . They are crispy outside and soft inside. My burmese friend love it alot.

Myammar coffee taste more like malaysia white coffee. It is quite fragrant with strong aroma of milk and coffee. The myammar tea taste like ordinary chinese tea.

The service here is friendly. Although some of the waiter could not speak or understand english very well, we can still communicate with them by pointing at the pictures from the menu and they can recommend the popular dishes to us.

After lunch, i brought mum to esplanade as she had not gone there before. I know she find it a little too tiring after all the walking but i still enjoy going out with her. I hope there are more opportunity to come.

Chengdu trip Dec 2009 - 9/12/09(Wednesday)

Today's trip cover Leshan Giant Buddha AND Qian Fou Yuan.
First we sat off to Qian fou yuan to see the stone scupltures of buddha. Some of scraving have been damaged during the cultural revolution. However, the buddha statue remained untouched.

What was most memorable were the ''toilet'' along the way. Since it is located in a rural area and there were no other toilets available, we had no choice but to use them. The ''toilets'' had no door and we used umbrella to shelter ourselves. We helped each other to hold the umbrella while we do our ''big or small biz''. There were digusting stuffs inside and i shall not mention. Some of the puked after that.
Well, china culture.... i even saw people doing biz without closing doors!

After the short trip, wr proceeded to watch the Leshan Giant Buddha. There are 2 options to go to the place- by ferry/ walking. We boarded the Ferry which carries 100 people across the beautiful lake to see the Leshan giant Buddha- Journey took abt 40 mins. Since we took a ferry, we had to take safety precaution- wearing life vest.
Leshan Giant Buddha, 71m high, is ''scupltured'' inside a mountain and it was well- protected even after the Sichuan earthquake that took place in May 2008. I think the Buddha ''Xian ling''.

Chengdu trip Dec 2009- 8 Dec 2009(tuesday)

We had to wake up super early in morning to explore Mount e-mei. We stayed at E-mei Hongzhushan hotel and it's jus located at the foot of mount e-mei. However, the bus journey up to the visitor centre took 1hr and we had to take an internal bus from the visitor centre to reach the entrance of mount-emei, it took us another 1.5 hrs. It was snowing and the ground had turned into ice, made it slippery and diffcult to walk. We bought a pair of ''ice-claw'' to tie on the sole of our shoes to climb up to the cable-car station. The route measure 1.5km but since the gound is slippery and wet and we are wearing the ''ice-claw'', we took around 45 mins to reach the cable-car station. Along the way, we saw monkeys which were gigantic.

We took the cable-car and had to walk further, climb up several stairs to the ''Golden summit''. The temperature drop to - 7 degrees and oxygen is limited. Some of our tour members were breathless and tired. But when we reached the ''Golden summit'', it was worth every effort(But not to me). I was disappointed with what i saw- A golden ''Puxian'' goddess covered in mist(unclear) and several small temples. I actually regretted spending so much effort to climb up the mountain.

Well, those who are devotees would definately feel that it was worth while. Tonight, we stayed at mount e-mei hongzhushan hotel(5 star). The buffet spread was delicious!

Chengdu trip Dec2009-7/12/2009( Monday)

We stayed at meishan hotel and it's very near one of the tourist site- Sansuci Museum. This museum is the house of the ancient famous philosopher, Su Dong Po. It showcase his house, work, art pieces and many antique.

After which, we visited the Bamboo museum. This museum showcase all the things that are made from the bamboo tree. The thick bamboo is ''sliced'' into very fine strips before weaving into various products such as vase, basket, art pieces and paintings...etc. We were fascinated by the exquiste work done by the people there. I bought a doll and a photo frame made from bamboo. Lunch is at the restaurant in the bamboo museum. The dishes have the ''bamboo'' taste, e.g Bamboo rice.Well, it's an eye-opener.

Chengdu trip 2nd day( 6/12/09)

After watching the beautiful scenery in Juizaigou, we left the place by plane and headed back to Chengdu. We met up with our next tour guide, xiao ling. She is quite pretty, with very big eyes and curly hair. We proceeded to the Tianzhu museum, where they show-case some exotic tianzhu which is believed to bless the person wearing with luck and wealth. Well, i jus look see look see, didnt buy anything as i do not believe in such things.

After lunch, we bused to the hakka old town. 85% of the people here are hakkas. But, im not, im a teochew. It's pretty interesting to visit this town to see their culture. The town looks quite old but it is refurbish not too long ago. We walked and stroll along the streets, bought some interesting goodies. I bought some deep-fried yellow fish with sichuan peppercorns. OMG, the chilli oil were gosh! It was oily but was tastyyyyyyy! THE DEEP-fried fish were mixed with sichuan chilli oil & peppercorns, producing a numbness to my tongue and lips... (my lips almost resemble a hotdog). Besides deep-fried fish, they also sell prawns, small little crabs and cocoons! I didnt dare to try the cocoons, despite it having high protein content.
Tonight's hotel: Meishan hotel.

I didnt like the breakfast spread. They have quite a variety but i only like the stewed pumpkin and the beancurd shred. The rest were either too spicy or reek of strong vinegar. Well, i managed to try a little of other stuff. The chinese here love the congee and mantou.

Finally touch down the Singapore Changi Airport.
The trip to Chengdu is definately worth it.
It was fun as i learnt the culture of the PRC there and made friends with our tour members.

Day 1:

4.5 hrs of flight to chengdu shuangliu airport. The weather was cold(15 degrees). We rushed to put on our sweaters and jackets to keep ourself warm. Chengdu temperature is temperamental, most of the time it rain and rain but we were lucky. Throughout the whole trip, chengdu is warm(the sun is out). We had to hurry down to catch the flight to Juizaigou after we touch down. Juizaigou is known for it's colourful water and the waterfalls. After we reached our destination, we had to take another 3 hrs to reach the tourist visitor centre. The journey there is definately tiring... as the road were uneven, many of our tour members vomited. The altitude of the mountain is 3000++ m high. Some people weould experience headaches, nausea and those with High blood pressure & Heart problems is at higher risk. We spent two nights at juizaigou. The climbing of the mountains under the cold temperature(7 degrees) is tiring... we had to climb 189 flights of steps just to see the beautiful colour of the lakes and water. Our tour guide there: Wang Mei.
She is a native there but her chinese is not too bad, i made friends with her and took a few photos with her too. The colours of the water and lakes were amazing, jus like a fairyland.

Time flies, it's 1.5 mths since i stop working @ STS.
Tmr, i would be leaving s'pore to chengdu for holiday.
I noe mom is very excited abt it as she bought lots of things that are required for the trip such as stockings, socks....blah blah blah and kept packing her bag.
I wonder how am i going to adapt there, even though it's only 8 days.
The weather there is freezing cold(-12 degree celcius) and snowing. Our luggage is packed with all the winter clothings. I want to take lots and lots of photos to make up for the loss during my shanghai trip few yrs ago.

Today, i went to Pink Nutrideli @ clifford ctr for lunch. This is a cafe that provides healthy food and beverage. I ordered the olive Mad about veggie masala.($8.90). It is served with olive brown rice and french onion soup. The serving is huge. The masala vegetables consists of carrots, potatoes, mushrooms and leek cooked in a spicy masala gravy. The smell is very pungent and spicy. I think they added too much curry powder. The olive brown rice is quite fragrant, with bits of black olives in it. I idnt like the french onion soup as they have added too much pepper. Besides veggies, you can also opt for salmon steak, chicken... served with spaghetti/brown rice.

The svc here is friendly and the whole cafe is decorated in dim lights and pinkish colour which adds a little cheerful-ness.

It has been quite sometime since i visit geylang- the gourmet heaven.
I went to Ci Hang western and vegetarian food centre for lunch.
Today's brown rice set: budock pancake, green veggie and stewed pumpkin and veggie soup with wolfberry. Their food is not heavily seasoned therefore it is very healthy. They seldom deep-frie their food but steam, boil and blanche instead to preserve the nutrients. I like teh budock pancake as it taste quite special. I think they used mushrooms, budock, green peas to make this small pancake. The pumpkin is well stewed with wolfberries and mushroom. The pumpkin skin is left intact as the skin is quite healthy-fibre. The rice is cooked with some flaxseeds and leaves a frangrant smell. The use the short-grain brown rice thus it's easier to chew.

Besides serving food, they also sell vegetarian and organic supply. It looks more like a provision shop to me with lots of goods available.

I went to tekka market today as i knew there's one veg stall that sells some imported vegetables. You can get fresh herbs such as basil, dill, thyme, rosemary leaves here and prices are cheaper than cold storage. The stall name is CHIA'S VEGETABLE SUPPLY. The shop is quite evident so u wouldnt miss it.

After the grocery shopping, i went to 7 sensations. Today is the 15th day of the chinese lunar ten month thus it's good to have vegetarian food. I ordered the brown rice platter. Today's menu: simmered pumpkin with celery and black fungus and cucumber pickles. The presentation is very good, i like the pumpkin which is stewed till soft but not mushy and there were chunks of carrots and celery cooked in delicious and sweet broth. Shiok!

I also bought their home-made chilli made from enzyme. It is not sold in the market yet as the lady boss ''invent'' this after experimenting it many times.

Real food, a new organic cafe located at the basement of The central.
The shop is jus opposite asianbakes and their concept is white and green(pure and nature).

They made some organic soy bean milk and mantou for sale. They are jus placed outside the door so you wouldnt miss it. The cafe is divided into 2 parts- cafe and retail. The cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner while the retail side carry a range of oragnic products from rice to creams and gels.

I ordered a brown rice set($6.80). The dishes change daily and today's dishes includes stir-fried lotus roots, boiled brocolli with mushroom and grilled vegetables( capsicums and sweet potatoes). Their food is not sesaoned with any salt or seasoning therefore it taste naturally sweet. The brocolli and lotus roots are crunchy. The grilled vegetables is a little soft but not mushy and has a little smoky flavour. The centre part of the rice is a little mushy but the rest is of the right texture.

They also served western food such as pizzas, sandwiches, spaghetti so do try it.

Real food, a new organic restaurant located at the basement of The Central.
I wanted to have my lunch there but was disappointed as they do not have any brown rice sets on weekends. I guess i would have to come back again next weekend to try out their food.

Sunday, very few places are open for biz. I walked past genesis and went in to take a look. Today's menu: Beef curry brown rice set. It sounds interesting, mock beef cook in curry. I also ordered a side salad to go along.

The rice set is served with a green veggie and a bowl of ''beef curry''. The curry is cooked with greens peas, cubes of potatoes and mock beef made of mushrooms. It was quite tasty and the serving is just enough for one person. I find that there were too much potatoes and i wish there were more gravy to go along with my rice.

Sfter lunch i went to chan brothers to pay for the balance of my hoilday trip. I forgo that i had to pay additional $60 for the visa application and did not bring enough $. I guess i had to go back again tmr to pay up the balance.

Simply bread,located at gutherie house is one cafe which most caucasians would have their brunch and breakfast. It's just a few doors away cold storage thus it would be quite convenient to just grab a bread or baguette here after shopping at cold storage. It's just simply crowded here, esp during weekends.

There's a counter where u order and pay. If u are taking away, wait at the side for ur food. However, if u are having ur food here, grab a place( quickly) & wait patiently for ur food. I order the ploughman's sandwich on granary bread. They made their bread fresh everyday and the bread is a little nutty and fragrant. I simply had to wait for 20 mins for just a sandwich as the queue is really long. Luckily they provided newspapers and magazines so it keeps me occupied.

I think the cafe is a little too small as they are always packed. They should expand their shop.

Fri is fresh fish day so it's the day dat i went buy fish from supermarket.
I had to stock up my fridge as im leaving for holiday for a wk.
It's exactly a week to go. Im afraid that i would not get used to the weather and food there. The weather there is freezing cold and snowing(- 12 degrees). The food there is oily plus spicy. I wonder if i could stand it. I had to bring some food over.

I had my brunch @ Toast. The auntie who prepare my sandwich is quite rude. I speak to her nicely but she replied rudely and unwilling. The worst, she showed a black and sulky face. I hate people who show me this kind of attitude.

I ordered a grilled veggie sandwich on multigrain bread and a side rocket salad. Total cost :$11 .
The bread is spread with hummus spread and grilled veggies(eggplants, onions and peppers). There were too much onions and they were not well- marinated. The bread is then toasted and cut into half. I find this sandwich a little too simple and anyone can make this at home. I would think that the grilled veggie sandwich @ b bakery would fare better.

The svc here needs some improvement.

Jus came back from johor.
Dad and i, together with his friends went jb to shop, eat and enjoy.
I bought so many stuffs that i could barely carry it home.

While dad and his friends are having lunch at New Lucky seAfood restaurant, i went for back massage- 30mins(RM 36). They said it was quite cheap for that price. If you convert it to sp dollars, it would definately be much cheaper. However, i could get a cheaper price in sp as well. The person who massage my neck is quite experienced. He said that my backbone has got some hump which is like this since i was young and would affect me when i grow up. The effects: sore back and neck. Indeed it's true... i have this hump when i was having check-up in p5 and p6. I jus hope it gets better over the yrs but it jus worsen.

The lunch was sumptious. Dad would always order alot of food even when there are only a few of us. He ordered the steamed giant grouper, braised fish lips, steamed chicken and stir-fried dou miao. Everything was delicious but the chicken was worth mentioning.We paid around RM 200 FOR all these.

Tired... we finally reached home and bad news is that dad received a phone call and rushed out. I was curious and asked him Why was he in a hurry. Nabey!!! the slut from china came to sp and demand dad to return her the laptop. I wonder y she has got so much money to come to sp as she kept ''borrowing'' $ from dad. I knew.... the $ would not be returned. I wish she would just go and die!

Im obsessed with sandwiches these days.
They are so healthy, full of fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Just grab 2 slices of bread, top it with veggies, spread it with some dressing and there u go: a healthy sandwich

Many of the sandwich bar are opened at raffles place area( CBD area) as most of the working class would grab a sandwich during their lunch hr. Today, i had my sandwich at Munch.

This small little cafe caters the working class in raffles place area. They specialised in salads and sandwiches but the salads are more popular here(many types). I wanted to ''create'' my own sandwich rather than get it from the shelf. 2 slices of country seeds bread with beetroot, romaine lettuce and egg mayo. You can have ur bread microwaved or toasted. The sandwich is prepared fresh on the spot and cut into 4 neat triangles. Feel free to use the ketchup/chilli sauce provided there. I like the counrty seed bread as the texture is nutty and i can seed the poppy seeds and oats too. The ingredients are fresh and generous. I could hardly finish the sandwich as they also provided some potato chips for u to munch on.

Svc here is friendly.

I read several reviews abt b bakery.
I have tried most of their cakes on display but have not tried their food yet.
I ordered the grilled vegetables on brown bread($7.80).
The sandwich took abt 10 mins to arrive as it requires time to toast and the vegetables needs time to grill.

The sandwich comes with 5 types of grilled veggie( tomatoe, eggplant, cucumber, lemon pcs and onion). I absolutely love the lightly-charred vegetables as each bite is bursting with flavours- sweet and a little savory. The brown bread is toasted so it was a little hard. It was spread with some sort of home-made garlic spread. It was up to my expectation.

The svc here is quite friendly. Seats are hard to get esp during lunch hr.

I had my brunch @ Nutrihub.
I wanted to order the brown rice set but the rice was not ready and i had to wait for another 30 mins. The staff told me that they had much more things to prepare on monday thus there were a delay in preparation.

Nontheless, i ordered the wholemeal sandwich which is also one of their speciality. The wholemeal bread is toasted, a veggie patty is sandwich btw two bread and served with a side salad.

The wholemeal bread is home-made and taste more like man-tou. It was not chewy and taste a little sweet. The veggie patty is the one that stands out. It looks blackish and a little digusting. I thought it was burnt when i saw it! It is actually made of different type of seeds and nuts( sunflower, black and white sesame, pumpkin...etc) and shredded carrots. The texture is nutty and it was quite fragrant when u chew it bit by bit. The side salad uses orange marmalade dressing which was refreshing.

The brown rice set changes everyday and you are entitled to 10% discount when u order any brown rice set/ wholemeal sandwich before 30 nov.

After lunch, i went to daiso to collect my reserved items.Since i spent above $120, im entiled to a lucky dip and i have won a pair of movie tickets!

I dropped by The salad stop again as im in the vicinity of marina square.
I was greeted by the friendly staff and they welcomed me back again.
I ordered the ''Create your own salad''($8.80)
I could choose any ingredients(unlimited) except those which are marked in red and blue which carries an additonal charge.

I chose a few toppings & requested in small quantity as im a small eater.
They mix everything together and chop it into small pcs for me(easier to eat).
They are quite a number of dressings to choose from. I had the salad tossed in Honey dijon mustard which taste a little pungent.

I would be back again as the svc is friendly, ingredients are fresh and food is good.

I had lunch at livin greens today.
I love their vegetarian food... it's so healthy and delicious.
Today's brown rice set : Pumpkin brown rice set.
I have tried that a few weeks ago thus i ordered something else.
Barbara recommended the Avcacado salad.
I ordered the avacado salad and a bowl of pumpkin brown rice.

The avacado salad looks so appetitizing. Carrots were curled up to decorate the sides of the plate. The avacado were mashed and it's best to mix in with the raw veggies to enjoy the godness of the avacado and the salad dressing. I always request for additional salad dressing as it's unique and ''home-made''.

After lunch, i went to esplanade again to borrow vcds.

Brunch was at Saizeriya ristorante e caffe.
This caffe is located at the second level of liang court, serving italian and jap- styled meals at affordable prices. You can find baked escagots and garlic mussels at a resonable price here.

Being served by a friendly waiter, im free to choose any seats. I ordered the fresh water shrimp salad(no 1 most poular) and tuna with mushroom salad. Both salad consist of ice-berg lettuce,one with fresh water shrimp and the other with tuna and served with special saizeriya dressing.

The no 1 most popular shrimp salad was not to my expectation. The fresh water shrimps were a little too salty. Therefore, i polished up the salad, leaving the shrimps behind.

The tuna and mushroom salad was too not bad. 3 types of mushrooms were being used and it blends in with the tuna paste. The saizeriya dressing is not too bad, not too creamy and taste a little sour.

Svc here is friendly.

After lunch, i went to liang court for the hokkaido fair. OMG! Lots of jap desserts!
I bought a special rock fish which cost $12.60 for a tiny pc. My heat feels pain.

After my shping, i went home to meet my insurance agent. She introduced several policies to me and i bought 3 at a go. Cost a few thousands...

Initially i wanted to have lunch @ 7 sensations.
However, as i walked past The Verge, i saw the newly renovated vegsenz having 20% off their food. They are a new cafe serving organic food.

I was browsing at the menu outside the shop and one of the staff came to assist me. They are abt 18 different types of food being served. I ordered the luohan vegetarian brown rice set($9.50). The staff there strongly recommended me the rainbow millet rice as it is quite special- 2 moulded millet rice being served with salad and other veggies.

The brown rice set took abt 5 mins to arrive. It was served with a moulded red brown rice, 2 sushi roll, a side salad, mixed veggies( consists of lotus roots, asparagus, cabbage,carrots...etc) and a soup. The rice is quite ok, not too mushy or hard. The mixed veggies is flavourful, with so many colours in a portion and it was well-braised- even the capsicum were tender and soft.

While i was enjoying the food, the staff came and asked me how was the food and asked for improvements. I suggested implementing the daily brown rice set so that customers would get to try different food everyday. As they are still a new establishment, they would slowly add more items to their menu.

They are having 20% discount for their food. Hurry down now and try it!

It's a little ridiculous to pay $17 for a plate of salad and a bowl of mushroom soup.
I had lunch tat marche vivocity.
I had salad from the salad bar and there are 3 sizes to choose from- small, medium and large. I requested for the medium size but when i saw the plate, i think it's too small for the veggies thus i requested for the large. I also had a cream of mushroom soup. When the staff saw my plate of salad, they told me that i could actually pile up a few more, like salmon salad, cucumber salad and olives. However, i knew i couldnt finish even if i pile up the whole plate. I jus take what i could finish.

The salad bar is quite ok, quite a few choices.
The cream of mushroom soup is a little too diluted, too milky and there wasnt much mushroom flavour in it.

I paid $17 inclusive of GST for jus a plate of salad and a bowl of mushroom soup.

Had vegetarian food @ Create healthy lifestyle cafe.
The Brown rice set of the day: Budock brown rice set.
I was told it comes with a boiled veggies, curry veggies and a side salad.
However, my brown rice set comes with a boiled veggies, beancurd and side salad.
I was a little puzzled and asked them why my set is different.
The staff said replied that i did not inform them dat i want the curry veggies.
What nonsense! The other customers who ordered the brown rice set did not inform them that they wanted curry veggies but they still got it. It was their mistake but they do not wanna own up. Even the portion and the type of veggies i got were different.

I was a little upset and perhaps i would never step in to the shop again.

I love walking along boat quay, sitting there, watching the river and taking photos
I was at the CBD area and my stomach is calling for help.
I walked to raffles xchange and saw ''souperlicious''.
It was located in a small cafe, housed together with cook book asia, yummi chiffon.
''Souperlicious'', from the name u would have guessed that they specialised in soups.
Well, i ordered half size of the caesar salad, a shroomy mushroom soup and an ice peach tea.($11.15)inclusive of Svc charge.

The mushroom soup taste quite ok but i think it's a little too thick(too much flour) and there were bits of walnuts in it. It added some crunch.

The 1/2 sized caesar salad is just enough for one person. Romaine lettuce, croutons and cherry tomatoes in caesar dressing. The dressing is a little on the heavy side and they have added too much dressing.

I had to ''self-svc'' myself and i cant understand why do they have to impose svc charge.

After reading some reviews frm HGW, i discovered another salad bar at marina square.
The salad bar took over the place where kam boat used to be.
The inerior looks very clean and there are a few station where u order, pay and collect ur food.

They have 10 signature salads to choose frm but if u can ''create ur own salad'' by choosing the salad base, toppings and even dressings! There are quite a number of salad dressings to choose frm- asian, western and light.

I ordered one of their signature salad- ''Oh crab Lah''. This is actually a ''singapore style'' salad. There are croutons, cherry tomatoes, crabstick, vermicelli, onions mixed with romaine lettuce and their own chilli crab dressing. The salad comes in quite a big portion and the ingredients are very fresh. I like the dressing which taste a little like mayonnaise and a little spicyness to finish it off. YOu can also ask to reduce the dressing if u want something light.

There is also a corner where u can get pre-packed salads and wraps. They have thai papaya salad, quinoa salad, yoghurt and fruit juice.

Lunch was @ pastamania.
Lot 1 shopper's mall is quite small and there isnt much food here.
I ordered a caesar salad & a bowl of minestrone soup.
It was a simple salad with hard-boiled egg, croutons and bacon bits.
The bacon bits were too salty, the croutons were quite ok... fragrant.
The minestrone soup is a little too watery. There were cubes of carrots and onions. However, it was too mild.

After lunch, i went to boon lay shping ctr with mum. There wasnt much to buy as we are going on a tour soon.

Lunch today @ The soup spoon.
It's my first time there and there were already quite alot of people having their soup, tortilla wraps.

I ordered a caesar salad, top up with a chicken and mushroom soup and a cup of ice lemon tea. The portion of the caesar salad is a little small, a few leaves of romaine lettuce and hard-boiled egg. I could not find any bacon bits in it. I like the dried cranberries that add a little sweetness.

The chicken and mushroom soup looks more like a stew. There were generous chunks of chicken meat, potates and my fav carrot, stewed with various types of mushrooms. It wasnt creamy and it's really nice.

I saw a gentleman wearing black uniform. I think he is the manager or in-charge. Instead of having the staff meeting at somewhere more appropriate, they chose to have their discussion at the dining premise. I think it wasnt very appropriate.

Create your own salad @ $8.90.
You can choose any 6 add-ins and pay a dollar more if you want premium add in such as cheese IN mesclun base.

I had sliced carrots, red cabbage, cherry tomatoes, olives, alfafa sprouts and raw beetroots tossed in honey mustard vinegrette dressing. The ingredients are fresh and crunchy.

Feel free to add in balsamic vinegar / olive oil at your own.

After lunch, i went to ntuc unity to get the amino collagen tablets. Collagen is good for women.

I crave for italian food.
Sweet Indulgence, a smal italian restaurant located at stanley street. This quiant restaurant has been there for quite some time. I have tried their royal chocolate truffle and was rather impressed by it. Their menu have changed and i hope the standard has remained.

An early brunch for me, i ordered the caesar salad. It is served with romaine lettuce, bacon bits and garlic croutons with home-made caesar dressing. The salad is not a very big portion but it's jus enough for one person. The romaine lettuce are cut into small pcs so it is easier to eat. The garlic croutons smell fragrant, with buttery garlic flavour. I like the home-made caesar dressing. It's mayonnaise mixed with a little caesar dressing.

The service here is very efficient and friendly. The waitress have very good recommendations. I like the ambience and atmosphere here, quiet and relaxing.

It has been quite some time since i visited jurong point.
There is a free shuttle bus to jurong point thus i board the bus there.
It wasnt exciting at all. There wasnt much things to see as well.
I felt so sleepy.

It has been quite some time since i went to vivocity.
I heard a jap deli has taken over Fre(n)sh.

The jap deli is called kimochi.
In jap, it means feelings.
They specialised in jap sandwiches, salads and desserts.
The deli is quite small and the salad bar is where the salads are prepared fresh.
I ordered a japanese caesar salad($8.80) and got a complimentary mushroom soup.

The mushroom soup is not too creamy and there were bits of mushrooms and croutons in it.

The jap caesar came in a bigger portion than i expected. Generous bed of lettuce, capsicums, celery, cucumbers, raddish cut into shape of a star, croutons, cherry tomatoes, mozarella cheese and served with sesame dressing. It was well-presented... well, jap products are normal well-packaged. I did not like the sesame dressing as it was too salty. The salad leaves and other ingredients were fresh and crunchy.
I did not manage to finish it thus i requested for the left-over to be packed home and they gladly obliged.

There are other salads and jap desserts as well. Do try this jap deli out.
